Lub & Dub

Saw the pullmonologist again today - the Russian doctor who looks the tiniest bit like Gorbachev - and overall my breathing HAS improved since my last visit. He's not happy with the improvement, feels it should be better, but I think a lot of that is due to the cold weather we've had up here.

So I left with a new inhaler to add to my existing ones, permission to try the herbs (I gave him a list of what's on it's way) and an oddly light sensation because I was told I'd lost 10 pounds since my last visit. Who knew? I've been a LUMP, barely able to walk up the stairs, so it's not because of working out. However, the breathing DOES make eating not much fun, so perhaps that's the ticket? At any rate, it's a heck of a way to drop weight, one I wouldn't recommend.

I'm hopeful that as I travel down to Georgia the warmer weather will be an enhancement to my breathing life. It's in the upper 60's according to the online weather site, so I'll pack sandals and shorts, too!

So tomorrow I pull out of the driveway and head for points south. I'm not sure how far I'll make it, but I'll stay overnight then head on to Atlanta the following day (Thursday). At first I'd considered doing the whole trip in one fell swoop, but that's just dopey.

I'm going to go rest a bit - I have a lot of packing to do!

Annie,

Please do not try to make it to Georgia in one long drive. It is a long drive and I have driven from Atlanta to New England and it took 2 days and I was in my twenties at the time. Also I recommend you bring a light jacket as the mornings are cool. I live in Columbia, SC now and the afternoons like today were wonderful. It was hard to go back to work after lunch today. Enjoy your stay.

Have a safe trip and I was hoping to attend your class at Yarn Paradise however I will be in the middle of a big audit at work.

Annie,

Sometimes breathing can use up a lot of calories/energy!

I hope you have a wonderful trip..just remember to not wear yourself out so you can fully enjoy it!

Annie. I just read your blog including the one from February about the hurtful remarks by some anonymous coward(s). Just want to say that I LOVE your work -- I love combination knitting which I taught myself from your website (thank you thank you thank you)and I love your book "Confessions of a knitting Heretic" and I hope you will write more, particularly about color knitting and managing the many threads. Please don't let those ugly people get under your skin -- your work is so valuable and wonderful and I love the irreverent style of your writing -- very refreshing in this conservitive age.

PS have you tried Acupuncture for your breathing and your baby quest -- there is an interesting article in the Jan/Feb 2006 Women's Health magazine http://www.womenshealthmag.com/article/0,,s1-3-72-429-1,00.html

Also having driven between NY and GA several times, Harpers Ferry, VA was the point we could make it to and feel successful. In Atlanta, I recommend the restaurants Watershed (owned by Emily Saliers of the Indigo Girls) and Figo pasta (yummy). In Watkinsville/Athens, the Grit comes highly recommended. Don't let the humidity get you down!

Hope the breathing is easier down south. I happen to think you are right, about the whole YKW thing- I actually used to think it was funny untill I read the comments. That's the whole thing about art. To make art, you have to be brave. To make art you have to risk mistakes, missteps, and dislike. Stepping out of the culture of sameness that engulfs us is one of the best things about knitting and other artistic pursuits. It is, in my opinion, worth it.
