Rounding Third
I feel as if I'm coming to the end of a long, long summer of work!
The Emmy dress is going pretty well, I think I should be able to finish it by Wednesday. I have two pieces that I'm putting the finishing touches on (is a sleeve a finishing touch?) that I have to send out this evening to Colorado. With the finish of those three pieces my summer of work will be complete. Oh - and a class in Minneapolis on Thursday (the day we arrive in the Twin Cities...)
This weekend I taught at Woolwinders in Rockville, MD and it was a joy - as always! I taught a knitting with beads class, my first time teaching it, and it felt like a successful out-of-town tryout. Thanks, Jacqui, for once again giving me such a great group to try my material out on!
I love Jacqui's shop, I love her customers and her staff - such wonderful folks! After a few days of the photo shoot I drove down on Saturday (a 3-1/2 hour drive that took about 7 hours this time... yikes! BAAAAAAD traffic on 95!) It felt great to arrive, sit down to dinner with Jacqui and her knitting husband Lew and sons, have a great dinner and then settle in for an evening of knitting. Life is good!
After the second class was over on Sunday I drove back home (this time up 15 to 81 to 78 and I was home in 3-1/2 hours!) and settled in here for another evening of knitting. Life continues to be good.
Except for the stress of deadlines; which are never fun - and the stress of trying to find common ground between different editorial and artistic visions; which is only to be expected - it's been a wonderful summer of working at home.
Oh, How We Danced
Thirteen years ago today Gerry and I were married. It was exactly 9 months to the day after he'd heard me on the radio (that's how we met...) and - even with the rough spots - I think we both feel pretty happy and lucky. Some days happier and luckier than others... I n celebration today was the first day that we had our lawn cut for us by Anthony & Son (Tony) and I'm very happy we did. Our lawn mower broke 2 weeks ago, I could tell Gerry wasn't 100% thrilled with shopping for a new one, and with us going away for a week and perhaps putting the house up on the market it seemed like a good idea to just have the lawn done for a spell. So far, so good! My own anniversary gift to Gerry -

I didn't realize that today was the day my segment on knitting the corset top would be on Knitty Gritty, but there it is! I found out because I'd received about 15 orders in an hour for the pattern (it's slowed down, that must have been when it was first on!) and I KNEW something was up! I haven't been in touch with them about doing a show this year - I really should - but I just can't see how I can spare the time, etc. Oy. It's so much planning because the guests have to pay for themselves to get out there, so I have to line up teaching gigs, etc., to make the trip pay. If you saw the segment and liked it (I don't have cable so I never get to see these - happily!) and/or just like Knitty Gritty in general, please email the DIY network and let them know - that would be a great favor, thanks! When they hear from happy viewers, they're more likely to keep a knitting show on the air!
Oh, for those who are interested, the Corset Pattern DOES have an additional little extra pattern for adding sleeves!

I left my camera in Maryland. At least, I hope I did! I can't find it - so I'm thinking I left it on the table in the yarn shop. No pictures for a bit... Darn!

Annie, I saw you on Knitty Gritty also today and would love to know where to get the other pattern you talked about with the sleeves. You mentioned an internet group that was making it, my two daughters would love that pattern also. linda

haaaaaaaaaaaaaappy anniversary! :-)
I thought I heard you screaming down I-95 through philly.....

Annie, you looked wonderful on today's Knitty Gritty segment, and you did a fantastic teaching job. I'm about ready to switch to your combined style of knitting, even though I don't have any problems--such as the rowing out you mentioned--with my own English-style knitting! I really hope you'll do another show, as this one was far and away the best of the current KG series.
Saw you on Knitty Gritty this morning. This was the "corset" ep where you demonstrate combination knitting.
Strange coincidence. I picked up your "Confessions of a Knitting Heretic" book to read yesterday. I actually purchased the book last October & just skimmed thru it. The student was not yet ready for the teacher.
Anyway, I was reading yesterday about combination knitting & studying the drawings & your description about how it's done & it just clicked. I could see it & then I picked up some knitting & just did it! And it was so neat seeing the show this morning about the same thing I had just read & understood.
I love all the tips in the books & that you have on the episodes that I've seen. I've noticed this evening as I pick up the book again that as I'm reading, I hear your voice in my head saying the words.
You've got another fan. I'm going to try my next pair of socks using combination knitting.
Thanks!
A very happy anniversary, and many more!
Go Annie, Go Annie, Go Annie - I've been waiting for your episode to air! It was fun to see you, fun to see all the iterations of the corset, and was that wendy of knit and tonic??
Sorry I missed you in Rockville - it's been hard to get away weekends. We'll meet one of these days!
I just saw you on Knitty Gritty and you were great. Not only was the corset tee nice (its going on my to-do list), but I really enjoyed the information on techniques. I may have to find out more about combination knitting--anything to make ribbing more interesting and faster.
The corset episode will also be shown again this Saturday, Aug. 26 at 4:30 p.m. EST. The sling chair episode will air again on Friday, 9/1/ at 11:30 a.m., for those who might have missed it the first time.
Happy anniversary!
How long will you be in Minneapolis? The TCKnit (Yahoo group) picnic is on Sunday the 27th at the Rose Garden in Minneapolis. I'd be more than happy to escort you if you'd like to go!
Wow, Tipper, that would be cool!
You can email me at annie at modeknit dot com and we'll try to arrange something! We'll be in town for a week!
Hi! I saw the Knitty Gritty show, too, and I'm a combination knitter. I didn't know at first - my mom taught me to knit, and then when I starting watching knitty gritty, I realized that I was doing it "wrong". Then I found your blog and was totally reassured that I was a true knitter! So thanks for putting combination knitting out there. I'm looking forward to knitting up that corset top, too.
Wait...they made you pay your own way? When Drew, Pam, and I went for Uncommon Threads, they paid for airfare and hotel. The two shows are done by Screen Door Entertainment. Why would they charge guests for one show and not the other?
Sorry I missed the episode! I'll have to see if they do re-runs! I love that corset top. I think it's my favorite of all your designs. It has this romantic sophistication to it. Makes me wish I had a clue about knitting.
I grew up in Minneapolis, so I understand your obsession with it. Just a few places to look at: Hopkins (a suburb) has the best schools, go the Minnehaha Falls, and don't bother with the Metrodome, wait for the new stadium. I know you have friends there, but if you need anyone to show you around, my mother is retired and working at a knitting shop and is a very good guide.
It was a really great show, Annie. You were MUCH more comfortable this time around, and those corsets are dang gorgeous. Too bad I'm a total belly girl and can't wear them...waist shaping and ribbing pull in where I poke out, making me looked like a pregnant beach ball.
I finally saw the episode on Saturday. YOU DID AWESOME! CONGRATS! I was so impressed with your delivery and confidence.
