A New Toy
This dopey youtube obsession and imovie are time eaters. I knit all day, I knit all evening and I'll be knitting tomorrow all day. I took a break (2 hours) and whipped up this very odd thing. Enjoy.
Appetizing, Older House for Sale
Yesterday at the Realtor Open House there were 27 folks - our agent says that's good, so we're crossing our fingers that this weekend at the Open House (Sunday, 1-4) we'll get a good amount of actual BUYERS interested in the house. It all feels so anticlimactic.
The really scary thing is that of the new listings in South Orange, ours is the cheapest. This is an insane market.

I loved the video.
I hate to disillusion you but my husband was a realtor for a time. Open houses are not to sell your house. They are to find new clients for your realtor. The MLS listing is the only thing that actually helps to sell your house, and that is so it shows up in searches that other realtors do for their clients. So make sure your listing is perfect and your house is priced to show up in the searches of people in your price range. If you want approx $400,000 for your house, for example, list it for 395, not 405. That way it shows up in searches in the 300s, even though it's not truly in that range.
Annie, I am very excited b/c I got my tickets for the Fall Fiber Fashion Luncheon and can't wait to see you in person!! Only 6 more weeks!!
And, I have heard that repeated sooo often about open houses are for realtors, not to sell the house. Well, I think that's what they tell the new agents to motivate them to house sit on Sunday. I bought my last two houses at Open Houses, and I sold my last house before it could hold a planned Open House, because an agent found it on the MLS. Good Luck! Your photos and listing look great!

Thanks Lisa! I know what Donna means, but I think it also has to do a lot with the area. In our area Open Houses tend not to sell a lot of homes, but they're not quite as useless as our agent in MN told us Open Houses are out there!
My agent said she's only sold one house at an open house, but this is the time of year when folks begin to despair of finding a 3 BR they can afford in the neighborhood they want (hopefully ours!) so who knows...?
What fun little video I need to hook up my camera and try some out!!

Is it just me or does the shot with multiple hands purling look like lots of dancing uterii?
well, hopefully it will get lots of bids and you will get more than your asking price! i am keeping my fingers crossedÑthe house looks adorable, so what is not to love?
Oh, Annie, not to stress you or anything but . . . today's newspaper says that Garrison Keillor (the PHC radio guy) is opening a bookstore in the basement of the building that Nina's Cafe is in. So, not only could you knit upstairs, you could sign books downstairs! Fight the good fight on the house front - we'll be cheering you on.
Oh, and the movie? I thought the multiple hands looked like hooded cobras - a bit "Snakes on Plane - on ACID!" ish.
Hi Annie,
Groovy moovy. (Particularly hypnotic at 1am. I am still coming down from a Diet Coke high. I need to get out more.)
Good luck with the house sale! I live in Portland, Oregon now, but grew up in Montclair NJ. My parents bought an enormous house back in 1972 for two sticks and a cup of coffee. (They didn't even have latte back then!) The house had 11 bedrooms and six bathrooms. They sold it 20 years ago for 10 times what they paid. I can't imagine what it's worth now. You're right. The market there is insane. I just discovered your blog, so I don't know details of your move. Are you going far?
I think you are fabulous. Yarn Harlot asked her readers to name four knitters they would invite to dinner, and I chose you. Come visit us in the great Northwest sometime!
Yes, it's an insane market, particularly since it turned into a buyers market back before this spring for no good reason! I hope you have better luck with your house sale than we are having - we've lowered the price 3x. It's down 11.6% over the original list price from 1 year ago, when the market was still hot for sellers.
Just yesterday, at both a showing my agent was going to (that she drove an hour to!) and a showing for our house, NO-ONE showed up at the realtor's office or at my agent's other showing - the clients didn't even call them to cancel. 2 hours cleaning and putting our lives away wasted! If we ever get through this, I'm never moving again!
