I had a young 5th grade student doing something similar and I told her your story. I will have to show her this video tomorrow. Now is that a "knit" stitch combo style?
My mother taught me to knit with the right needle under my arm and I cannot knit anyother way except with circulars. My mum doesn't take her hand off the needle like I do, but I figure that if my tension is even and the final product looks good then I must be doing it right.
I purl in pure combination style, but on knitting I insert the needle in the bacak loop but yarn over on the "other side". This allows me to create a nice uncrossed fabric and producing stitches that are all mounted the same way. Knitted stitches are not as fast as in your combo style, and decreases are just as different from the decreases suggested in any pattern (a pox on them: why don't they always add the graph), but I don't have to concentrate on reading each and every stitch. ^_^

Thanks. I've been wanting to teach myself (since I can never seem to get to one of your classes).
Thanks Annie,
Makes things much clearer when you can actually see how to do something
