Stella the First

I'm loving this dog here.

It's Suzanne's dog, Stella, which means Star. And, being in Texas, it's a fitting name.

She's an independent sort of dog, she knows her mind. She likes food, tolerates love, but lets you know when she's had enough. I respect that in a pooch.

I would be fearful to get her and Atticus together. Mr. Humpty Dumpty would enrage her, I'm sure, because she doesn't seem to be the kind of dog that likes to be dominated.

I really enjoyed the movie yesterday - it was a wonderful break, exactly what I needed, and I was able to actually get a nice amount of knitting done during the movie. Touch me. There were 5 of us in the theatre for the 2:20 show, so I was able to surreptitiously use my small, focused LED ruler to double check my work when I thought I'd run into a mistake.

The movie was grand - exciting and a costumer's dream. I thought the casting was really excellent, and although I can see much to pick at in the movie, it was exactly what I needed WHEN I needed it, and I'm grateful it was there to take me away.

So now I know - Calgon doesn't do it for me, but Elizabeth does... And also some good barbeque. And Stella.

Today I'm teaching at Bluebonnet Yarn, then I'll spend the evening with an old friend from NJ who's moved to Austin. It will be DELIGHTFUL to see her - I cannot wait! She has dogs, too!

Thank you for your really kind thoughts and good wishes. The buck in Suzanne's yard thanks you, too.

I think I was sort of hitting a wall. I think I do need a massage, and I'm scheduled for one when I get home (I'd rather do it locally, nothing against the massage folks down here...) and I'm also going to start some regular accupuncture treatment for my back.

I'm working back into the yoga (I have a DVD I used to do every day, it's time to start it again because I can take it with me wherever I go) and, if it weren't 102 here (actually, high 80's but rather humid) I'd walk more. I'm a feeb. Woof.

And now, off to Bluebonnet. Everything's better with Bluebonnet on it.

Wish I had the time to get one of the classes in at either location, but it was great to see you on Sunday morning! I can recommend a masseuse in the area, but it is in Round Rock (20 mins up the road) so maybe a little far north...

Cheers and {{healthy back}} vibes...

There is nothing more wonderful than going to a movie on a workday afternoon. When I was still working, I used to occasionally take an afternoon off just to see a movie. It always made me feel so recharged - more so than exercise even!

Hi Annie--I was one of your students in your evening class last night, and I wanted to let you know that I enjoyed the postive you-can-do-it-even-if-it's-finishing vibe you projected and of course, your knitting expertise. Thanks for sharing yourself and your knowledge in the midst of a difficult time. I'm wishing your husband the best of luck with his healing, and happy, hopeful thoughts to you and the kids.

I'm glad you're getting the massage. Good idea! I've started getting one every other week, and it's really helping my pain.

That is also a good movie for Sunday night at 10:30 when you can't sleep--but I'm chicken, had to close my eyes for the knife down the throat and the poor cousin in the cage.

Stella rocks the socks. You should see how excited she gets when she thinks Suzanne has come back to the shop after a few hours away. No barking, no real tail wagging, but, oh! the yearning!

I've never thought to ask, but I wonder how Suzanne managed to desensitize Stella to all the yarn. My dogs love it, tear it apart, and bury hanks in the backyard if they're found, and then there's Stella, nary a nibble.

I'm glad your felling better, Annie. We all have rough patches and you seem to be gliding out of your latest one. The accupuncture and massage therapies will probably do you a lot of good - you haven't been doing much for yourself the past few months at all. Movie was a good start - continue with the rest. Love and light.

LOL - my word verification is dubslg (dub slug - just like the preznit)!

I'm so glad to read that you treated yourself to a movie in the middle of the day - always gives me that lovely "playing hooky from school" feeling. And you certainly deserve to relax and have fun!

I love the pic of Stella as Queen!

Funny you should mention the movie - we went to see it yesterday, too. It was amazing.

Best wishes to Gary & his newly engrafting stem cells. Stem cells rock.

Annie,
I was also in the finishing class on Monday night and I really got a lot out of it. Many of the things that you said really resonated with me, and I am still thinking about them. This is the sign of a good teacher/philosopher. After reading your blog, I realized even more of what you're going through right now. I hope that things will get better for you soon. I too am trying to get back into yoga and bring some balance into my life (after dealing with three of my husband's family members having serious illnesses over a period of the last 6 years). I'm also a female breadwinner, since my husband quit his job to return to school full time last year. However, I would never profess to say that I know how you must feel having to deal with your husband's illness. Anyway, I will definitely try to take another class from you in the future - you are an awesome knitter (yes, I know it's what you do for a living -- and I would love to see some $20K folding too). Don't think that I am trying to butter you up (with Bluebonnet, no less). Good luck to you on the rest of your Texas tour and I hope to catch up with you the next time you're in Austin. Joyce
P.S. I loved the Elizabethan Stella! You're right - she rocks.

Stella is the best! Thanx for coming to Austin, Annie. I learned a lot from you this week, and I'm loving my fabric! (c:

It's nice to be twisted as an option and not all the time ...
