My Favorites
If Oprah can, then so can I!

I spent a good few hours going over a lot of new things that I saw or played with or experienced this past year, and here they are - things that affected me strongly, in a positive way, sometimes even in a knitterly way!

Number One - Signature Needles
My absolute favorite thing this year?
It will be a disappointment for those of you who only like circs or wood/natural needles, but I absolutely adore long, straight metal needles.

Signature Needle Arts, a woman-owned company provides a product that you can self-design
(pick your length, end and tip sharpness) Yes, I know they cost like smoke - and like most folks I don't have any extra $$ to toss around, but I do feel that they're worth it.

I do this for my living, so I am in a different boat than many of you
(needles as a business expense - go figure!) but even if I didn't, I'd save up and get these when I felt I was solvent enough. And they're NOT for everyone, but if you're a metal needle lover, you may have found your grail.

Absolute heaven.

They're beautiful, they're fast, they're so shiny and slick and sharp. Woo! I have no affiliation to the company, and only wandered upon their website by accident, but I'm in love.

Here's everthing else that I love this year.
If I left something off the list, I'm so sorry - its possible that it's just a memory lapse on my part, so please add to my list in the comments!!

I've never commented before, but I do read your blog regularly. I had to comment when I saw the beautiful metal knitting needles. I have all my mom's old metal needles from probably the 50s or 60s and I love knitting with them. I'm certainly going to bookmark Signature Needle Arts' page.
I must tell you that I love reading your posts about Minnesota. My entire family is made up of born and bred Minnesotans...except me. My parents threw things out of whack and moved away before I was born. I joke and say that if I were to throw a pebble anywhere in Minnesota, I'd likely hit some sort of relative (not that I want to throw things at people, mind you). It's a lovely state and I enjoy hearing of your adventures there.

Oh my. These needles could be just what I was looking for. I am trying circs, but I really really think they are not for me. With the point choices these could be my answer to my quest for better needles just for lace alone.

I've owned my knitting needle set since 1973 or so. They are plastic, and too soft to carry the weight. The tips are really rounded. I would burn the things if burning plastic was environmentally friendly.
Its no wonder that I never enjoyed knitting till I simply had to learn socks.

The site is book marked and the coveting has begun.

My hands, unfortunately, are not fond of metal needles -- but wooden ones oh yes. the Knit Picks Harmony needles are a joy to work with. Smoothness of metal, warmth of wood and gorgeous colors. If you can justify the metal custommade ones as a business expense, you can certainly justify these. And even if you can't, well, with the year you and yours have had, be extravagant with yourself.

I've seen the ads in the knitting mags and any day now I'm going to order a couple. Because of the way that I knit I prefer straights and while I do like bamboo I prefer the solidity of metal.
It's good to hear a positive review!!

add: Izzy's Ice Cream

Hope you're feeling better. I fear I'm coming down with another Christmas Crud. Perhaps it's best we missed last night, but I'll call in the raincheck soon!

I'm so glad to see that the Signature needles are in production now. I came across something about them last summer? year? and e-mailed the owner of the company asking about them. She is a knitter who also happens to run some kind of industrial metallurgy/metalworking business and was thinking about adding these needles as a little sideline. She was most gracious and solicited my input, which was to advise her to think about circs rather than straights. (That's why I'm not an entrepeneur and she is.) Yay for her and yay that you like her needles! I'm betting your endorsement will garner her some business.

Annie,
I'm glad to see that you included France in your favorite things. I would include it in my list too. And you were a big part of that experience. I hope I can take one of your classes again. I almost came to San Antonio when you were there, but I had other obligations.
