Feed Me, Seymour
I'll be the first to admit when I'm licked, and I just cannot figure out the RSS / Atom / Google Reader feed thing to save my life.
If anyone can explain it to me, in lay-woman's terms, I'd be very appreciative.
Right now I create my blog through blogger, and host it at www.modeknit.com. There's no path or directory to the blog, it's the index page of modeknit.
And that's about where my extensive (!) knowledge of blog feeding begins and ends.
PS - Heather, you da bomb! Thanks to you my RSS blog readers all over the place are getting 22 updates from the past month or so. Thank you!
Help?
Rumination
I'm in a thinking part of my design / writing / living process right now. Yesterday a great deal of the day was spent in the hammock, thinking. Then I knitted a bit, thinking. And finally there was Max's baseball game. Yep, I was thinking all right!
So today will be spent number crunching (yes, Michelle, I'm finally redoing Bel Canto!) and catching up on stuff that I should have done weeks ago. Quarterly taxes come to mind. And emails I haven't answered. Life's been a bit of a blur with the teaching and TNNA and traveling, but I'm home for a bit (except for our much anticipated fishing and visiting extravaganza this weekend!)
I'm not looking forward to the work - onced again it's "My brain hurts" time - but it's a coolish day and after breakfast with my guys at the Louisiana Cafe (Hannah's at school) I'll come home and settle in for some time in Math Hell. To be followed by Charting Purgatory. Heck of a place for a Heretic, no?

Remember, a cooling glass of iced tea (or something stronger, like a beer) held against the temples can enhance concentration. Drinking it (the latter in moderation, of course) will lead to even better thoughts.
I can't help (my blog is totally on blogger), but I'll send Mike (my boyfriend) your way to see if he can help.
Hmmm... I'm not quite sure if this will answer your question, but, most blogs have an RSS Feed ("Really Simple Syndication"). If you use a feed reader such as google reader, bloglines, newsgator, etc., what happens is that you will have a single page that lists ALL the blogs you subscribe to.
I read about 200 blogs. I do not want to go to 200 different web pages a day to see if they've updated. By connecting my google reader to the feed it collects all 200 blogs on one page, and will tell me if any of those 200 blogs have updated, and I can read either a portion or the entirety of the blog posting from the single web page.
It's sort of like going to a newspaper. The newspaper is in charge of keeping on top of the news and collecting it in a single location for your convenience of reading. Google reader collects all the blogs (and news sites, Ravelry feeds, etc.) that I am interested in and keeps them all organized and on one page for me to read when I have time.
Google Reader (which I use and recommend) can find the feed from individual blogs (click "Add Subscription" and paste the main blog address OR the feed address and hit ok. GR finds the feed for you). Your blog feed address is http://www.modeknit.com/blog/atom.xml
Does that help? I overexplain things and may not have even been answering the question you were asking... If I helped, then good! If I made it confusing and caused your brain to hurt, please accept my humblest apologies and know that I will flog myself when I get home. :)
Enjoy your trip! Joyful indeed to fish and visit with ones we love...Safe travels, Anne
I think maybe you're asking about the creation/sending of a feed from your blog, not reading other people's feeds, right? I was just noticing recently that I hadn't seen a post from you in over a month, and then today 22 posts showed up in my reader!
I use Wordpress, so I don't know exactly how it works in Blogger, but with Wordpress it's pretty much automatic. You can control some of the settings for your feed under the "reading" category in Wordpress. Blogger should have something similar.
Sometimes, it could be an issue of needing to install a newer version of your software. I periodically need to update to a new Wordpress version to keep everything working properly.
That said, it looks like things are working properly now, since I got the feed for this, and your last 20+ posts, today.
Your use of the word "Rumination" reminded me of a beer you might, perhaps, enjoy. It's called, Ruination IPA. Comes in the big girl-sized bottles. It's good for what's aleing you. ;-) Relax and have a beer.
well, i'm not sure what you did since your last post, but your blog is showing up again on google reader.
-athena :-)
I just got 22 blog posts from you today, too. I thought you'd moved your blog, so I tried adding it again and got the message I left on your last post. Funny they showed up the day after I mentioned it to you. :^)
KatieL -
That's because your comment prompted me to actually LOOK INTO the matter! THANK YOU!
And Thanks again to Heather - your comment helped me figure it out, thanks!
Annie: I just finished your book that you gave me at TNNA. I don't know if you remember me but I'm the one who told you that we don't go temple anymore since our son, Max, had his bar mitzvah four years ago. When you signed my book I think you wrote "go to shul" but it's hard to read....ANYWAY, I just wanted to give you some feedback on your book. I could not put it down. I really like your writing style. You may not feel like it most of the time, but from my perspective, you and your family are dealing with everything with such strength and obvious love. Is it on Amazon yet? If so, I'll write a review. Best wishes to you and your family.
Gosh, I thought you were still on break and then up pops a month or more of posts. Good to see you posting, Annie!
well, this is odd. i got all 22 today, too. but i had already read all of them except the first one, on my google reader. i have been getting them, all along! is it just 'cause i'm special? ("please don't let me be normal!" :)
Well, I don't know HOW I helped but, boy am I glad that it worked! I've been having a bit of trouble on Google Reader and I had to re-add several feeds; yours included! If I had known there was something you needed on your end, I would have sent you an email sooner!
I had re-added you twice to my google reader but no joy -- so I just ignored blogs almost completely for two days, sign in today and BINGO - It's Annie! :)
I'm happy and it's good to know I'll see you whenever you post instead of thinking when I'm going to bed "Gee, I haven't seen Annie lately..."
I've been trying to add you to my Google Reader list and every time I copy and paste the url - http://www.modeknit.com/ I get these messages:
You have subscribed to "(title unknown)."
"(title unknown)" has no items.
I haven't had trouble with any other blogs I read. So I wonder why GR keeps insisting your blog not only doesn't have a title but also doesn't have any posts.
Please let us know if you find out what is going on and how to correct it.
Thanks, Annie.
