Bah-ston
I'm here in Boston, my flight got in this afternoon and I'm staying in the area in preparation for my classes tomorrow.
I'm very excited about them - a new working model for me - sponsoring and covering all the expenses of the class myself, but keeping the $$, too. On this trip it's working out - I'm psyched about that.
As yarn shops have less and less capital to invest in bringing in a teacher, this may be a way to still get to areas to teach where no shops are able to host me. Boston is a prime example - there are lots of shops, but they tend to be smallish (which can be hard for classes) and I wasn't able to find one that wanted to sponsor classes.
I'd always prefer to work with yarn shops - I like the symbiotic relationship between different areas of the knitting and fiber world - but sometimes it's not possible (or practical)
So tomorrow is my experiment in handling this whole thing myself - and I'm looking forward to it!
I picked up a NY Times and Boston Globe when I arrived, papers with banner headlines, OBAMA!
My heart is so full of hope and pride, and so full of the knowledge of all the work we'll have to undertake to undo the hole we've been dug into, it might burst.
Of course, the inevitable protests have begun...

Ah, Obama's inexperience is catching up with him already, isn't it? A cat would be so much easier than a puppy! But I'm sure he and Michelle are up to it.
Part of my new career as a consultant is to work with designers on planning events like what you are describing. I'll be interested to hear how it works out. Let me know if I can help you in any way.
From the comment he made, it appears the girls were requesting a puppy. But maybe there'll be a kitty and other pets, too. Hope your new adventure is an excellent one!
Enjoy Boston; I hope you new teaching model is a huge success for you. If so, you should come back to the SF Bay Area for classes.
We were in Boston this past July and found a fabulous bookstore and cafe, called Trident Booksellers & Cafe (http://www.tridentbookscafe.com/NASApp/store/IndexJsp;jsessionid=cbas9GyajXM_o9ceHZV1r?s=regionalcatalog). We found it while looking for a breakfast place after our red-eye flight from San Jose, CA. Someone at another shop recommended Trident and we were extremely happy with our food (my personal favorite was the stuffed french toast). It is also an independent bookstore and their collection is unique.

Hi Annie,
Welcome! Enjoy your time in Boston, as well as the unseasonably warm weather weather we are enjoying this week. I am registered for your classes at Slater Mill this weekend and can't wait to say hello. And good luck with doing it all on your own. Yay for strong independent women!

Imagine how we Chicagoans feel! (Well a bit conflicted actually - he has been a gret senator - as is Dick Durbin - we were doubly blessed! and I don't think anyone expects our idiot governor to dazzle us with his appointment.) I'm pretty sure that the main reason the haven't had a pet before & the reason for a puppy rather than a cat is that someone in the family has allergies - they've been asking for suggestions for dogs that don't aggravate allergies.
