The Big M

Annie is taking off today
to celebrate for Mother's Day.
So an awesome guest-blogger
her 12-year old daughter
will write the featured post (Hooray!)

Well, well, well. Hello. I am your dear guest Hannah. Yes, I did rip that off from A Series Of Unfortunate Events, but that is probably the only line I know that was in both the book and the movie, so I enjoy using it.

Throughout this blog post, you may find odd faces like these: :3, x3, xD, :D because as you know (if you read the first line) I am not Annie (Mom) but an evil little creature named Hannah who is not actually evil nor little, but is taking over her mother's blog post.

Well, dear readers, lets get started.

Since I am a "lazy" person (I like to sleep in late) I made a point of going to bed early last night in hopes that somehow I'd wake up early and be able to see mom go downstairs to find the white tulips and truffles we had bought for her at Just Truffles.

No such luck.

My dad woke me up at 10:08, grinning merrily like the Coca Cola Santa Claus, and told me how mom had, "Loved her gifts, and she and my brother Max were at Lookout Park where they'd biked while I was still asleep."

Which brings us to this picture! (Que the music!)

This picture is of my brother drinking tea from (I think that's the lid) of a thermos and eating.. A truffle!

Side note: I find it funny that a truffles are named after type of mushroom because I detest mushrooms, but love truffles. (They're chocolate, what chocolate eater doesn't like truffles?)

In fact, I am currently biting into some kind of truffle that is not
Chai. I don't know what it is, only that it's not Chai.

Back to me talking. So Max and Mom had an awesome time at the park, eating a truffle and drinking tea. They both get up early and do things like that. I sleep in. Who's the wiser? You be the judge...

Side note: OMG I just realized I'm eating a Baileys truffle or a caramel truffle.
I think, and I am pretty sure, it's caramel. But still, what if it's
Baileys..!?

Back to me. I am very sorry if my side tracking is confusing you. Believe me, it confuses even the greatest of minds.

Anyway, I think I'm done explaining that picture up there with the boy squeezing his eyes closed as he sips tea from the cap of a thermos, or whatever they're called, holding a truffle in his hand and wearing a dark sweatshirt with a bike in the background.

Yeah, that's all the explaining I'll do. I could also explain, though, that that was a run on sentence. So I guess now I'm done explaining.

Ta-Dah! New picture! I know, I just fainted from excitement too.

Anyway, this awesome picture is not of a quiche or some sort of pie, even though it's from the Italian Pie Shoppe. Oh noez, did I just give it away!?

Anyway, I should tell you even if I didn't give it away. That is a pizza (I know, you'd never guess, it looks too... Amazing!) from the Italian Pie Shoppe that got cold so we stuck it in the oven.

I was watching it and told mom when it was time to take it out, and when she came over to look at it she gasped in delight. Okay, maybe I fudged it a bit, but still. It was a darn good lookin' pizza.

I say "was" because after mom took this picture, we scarfed pizza down our, as some books say, "Gobs". Basically we stuffed ourselves.

Now, one of the awesome things about pizza from the Italian Pie Shoppe is that they put bits of sun dried tomato on top of their pizza, and its soooo good x3! Even I, the girl who is picky and who doesn't much care for tomato, loves it!

Side note: This blogs getting kinda long... Sorry if I'm boring you!

And now, for the last picture that I shall describe.

I will first tell you that I did try this on, but cannot find the picture mom took of me wearing it.

Anyway, what this picture depicts is part of a hand knit dress my mom is working on (her friend, Miram, the fastest kniter in the world, knit for her. She lives in Holland, where there are tulips and she brought me licorice. Did she bring you licorice? Noooo!)

She's already pretty much finished, but she's been adding final touches like a new belt which is the green beads you see. The bottom and collar also have green beads. Mom's basing it on some type of Greek/Roman dress, and I don't wanna give too much away so I'd better stop now xD!

Well, since I have some extra room left, I'll ask a few questions:
  1. Did you ladies and gents enjoy my (awesome) blog post?
  2. If I posted again, would you like it?
  3. How are your Mother's Days going?
  4. What type of music do you like?
  5. Are you going to answer these questions :3?
  6. I think my icon faces (x3, :3, xD, :D) look weird, do you?
  7. Did you realize that I actually lied?
That picture was not my last, this one is!

It's me in Paris with my friend, Elle.

Well, if you've read through all this stuff, I congratulate you!

Thank you and good bye!

Well dear Hannah Brooklyn (after the Borough?) Landy,
Your guest blog was delightful and I snickered during many parts because I enjoyed your style of writing.
Yes, I would like it and read it if you posted again -- just to give your dear mother a rest.
My Mother's Day (I am the mother of an 18 year old college freshman boy) is going well. I DID cook him a hamburger for lunch but only because he treats me like a Queen during the entire year. I like my Mother's Day with no muss or fuss.
I enjoy all kinds of music - not much Top 40 (but I DO find Britany Spears fun to dance to) more alternative stuff. But I'll sing to anything.
I can't even tell what the icon faces are saying except for the last one which I like because it's such a big happy smile. So, yeah they look weird.
Now that last picture of you was taken on one of the bridges over the Seine Oui? Next Saturday will be a year since I spent a week there. In fact, I gave your mom the information for the apartment I stayed at after I took a class with her in Connecticut. I'll bet you had as much fun there as I did - I can't wait to go back some day!
Well, now this response is probably as long as your blog - but you wanted your questions answered!

Great Mother's Day post. You seem to have inherited your Mothers wit, this will be a great asset, it will bring you through many trials and tribulations. Keep writing.

HI Hannah,
1. I certainly did. It was like looking into your mom's past if she'd been blogging at your age, or my daughter's future. I hope my daughter will be able to write as well, as voice-full, as you someday. (She's only two.)
2. Yes! You bet! I'd love to see what you are knitting and/or modeling and/or cooking, any day.
3. Great. I have been reading a wonderful book and lounging in bed with a vanilla soy latte. (I'm behind you here on the west coast.) now we're heading out for a walk and my son (age 6) and I are going to the movies this afternoon.
4. I like anything with great lyrics done with good musicianship. This makes my taste pretty eclectic. My favorite singer is Patty Griffin.
5. yes
6.not really
7. cute picture!

Great blog post! I can't wait to be back in St. Paul so I can get my hands on some of those truffles. I love that place.

1. Yes, this gent did enjoy your awesome blog post.
2. I would for sure like it if you blogged again.
3. My Mother's Day is fine. I'm 400 miles away from my mom and I just locked my keys in my car, but other than that it's great. (I just went discing for three hours, it was pretty sweet.)
4. I listen to classical music. Yeah, for real.
5. I will answer these questions, yes.
6. Yes, they do look weird. I don't know what they're supposed to mean (except the last one, :D)
7. I did realize that.

I Loved your awesome blog post and I would very much like it if you posted again. I especially would like to see the picture of you modeling the dress.

My mother's day is going great - we are going to go to Whole Foods and eat dinner at their salad bar. I like classical and folk music. I think the icon faces are a little weird, but OK.

Also, it's not lying if you change your mind. You thought it would be the last picture when you wrote that, so it wasn't lying.

P.S. I would love to go to Paris someday.

4. Classical and Jazz, in that order, and with some even more unusual stuff like Lyle Lovett.
5. Just did.
6. yupper.
7. Went right over my head.

1. I adored your post. Quite wonderful to hear joy in your words.
2. I would definitely like it if you posted again. Maybe you and your mother could "co-post" some days if you are sharing an experience....like Paris?
3. I am having an exceptional Mother's Day. Spent a good part of the day floating in my new pool lounge.
4. I like most music, but choose not to listen to very much heavy metal, rap, or hip hop.
5. Obviously I am answering your questions. Fun interactive feature.
6. Not weird.
7. I didn't catch the lie, but that's what I get for scanning quickly.

Hannah:

Thanks for giving your mom a blogging break and posting for her today. As another person who values the art of sleeping in late, I applaud you in finding out how important it is to sleep in as late as possible at your young age. ;)

If you wanted to post again in the future, I would enjoy reading your thoughts.

My Mother's Day consisted of sleeping in until 10:30 am (although I did wake up at around 4:15 am and thought I would be very made if I wasn't able to go right back to sleep; I did!) and then going with my husband and 12-year old daughter to meet my mother for brunch. Now I'm relaxing under our quietly humming ceiling fan reading some of my favorite blogs. Usually there is music on in the background (Top 40) but we are quiet in the house right now so that my daughter can finish her homework.

Since I am still trying to understand all the icons that are used either on the computer or when texting, I thought yours were fine.

The photo of you in Paris is so lovely (you mom had posted others from your trip) and I forgive you for the "lie" since a smiling photograph from such a talented young lady is always the best way to end a blog post.

Enjoy the rest of the day. Give you mom a hug from one of her many fans.

Dear Hannah: Thanks for giving your mom a break and writing for her today. I understand she's been under the weather (great term that) so this probably gave her some extra time to breathe. To answer your questions.
1. Yes, I enjoyed your awesome blog post.
2. I think it would be grand to hear from you more often - blog away!
3. My Mother's Day was pretty rugged this year - our cat had been wheezing for two days and was terrible today so we went to the Emergency Vet clinic. She had to be helped across the bridge and it really bites the big one! :(
4. My musical tastes are quite eclectic - just no acid/hard rock please and we'll get along just fine.
5. I've believe I've answered your questions :)
6. Yes, they do look weird. I don't know what they're supposed to mean (except the last one, :D)
7. Yep, you did :-)) But we all still forgive you.

Excellent post! Thanks for filling in for your mom, Hannah -- I bet she loved the break (not to mention the truffles and the pizza; I would have loved the truffles and the pizza myself, but my girls made me cornmeal pancakes -- a big favorite of mine, so I suppose I oughtn't to complain). I hope you get to post again :)

1. Yes, I enjoyed it very much.
2. Sure!
3. I had a good mother's day, in a long-distance kind of way. (My mom's far away)
4. I like Coldplay, Jack Johnson, Beatles, REM, Thelonius Monk, Miles Davis, Lemon Jelly, and Cat Stevens among many others.
5. I'm workin' on it!
6. Yeah... I wish there was a way to turn them right-side up. I'd probably use them more if there was. ;P
7. I didn't realize it till you told me. Looks like we'd better keep an eye on you, sneaky thing!
Cheers, KT

5. yes, ma'am.
6. a bit, but I like the quirkiness.

5. No.
6. I have never seen a smiley that didn't look weird.
7. It's a lovely picture, so I forgive the lie.

But your pizza photo made me hungry.

Dear Hannah--

I love dyour post and I think you have quite a talent! I particularly love the side note comments...commenting on your own comments is quite a feat! To answer your questions:
1 & 2. I loved the blog post and I hope you continue to periodically take over the blog. Your wit and originality are just great!
3. I had a great Mother's Day. My boys (16 and 13) gave me hysterical cards and then they treated me to lunch at an Indian restaurant (even though they have never been to an Indian restaurant and were not sure they would like it. Actually 1 liked it and the other was not "hungry" but I think that is code word for "I am not sure if this is really up my alley."). We got to hang out a bit in the afternoon, and they left me alone to knit a bit. Then we met up with my family for Chinese food...it was certainly a great day for diverse ethnic foods!!

4. I love all kinds of music..from classical to jazz, blues to rock. I even listen to all the hip hop that my 13 year old listens to (which is probably why he likes when I drive him places). I like middle eastern music and even music in languages that I can neither speak nor understand. Just give me a cool beat and a great voice.

5. Self evident I think.
6. emoticons are kinda cool.
7. I don't think you lied, but I do think your impish sense of humor alerted me to the fact that you may have had more up your sleeve!

1.The acorn didn't fall very far from the tree. You are well on your way to being as good a writer as your mom. When will you start your own blog??
2.See above. I would certainly read what you write.
3.While I am not a mother, the day was spent with family and other mothers. It was a great family party of more than 20. You know how New Jersey family things can get.
4. Show tunes, big band, music from the 40s (ok I'm a fogey)
5.Looks like it ;p
6.Weird is in the eye of the beholder
7.Did you lie or did you change your mind??
Hannah, the first time I met your mom was in a class in Minnesota. She was talking about moving to MN. Since then, my DH and I have moved from Plymouth, MN to NJ. But I had the great pleasure to spend some more time with her on board the Westerdam last month.

1. Very much; 2. yes, indeedy; 3. great; 4. when I was your age I listened to the to 40 (and that was when Elvis' star rose); now I prefer classical music of any sort, old or new. 5. Obviously; 6. Yes; 7. That's not a lie, that's a revision.

Hope to see another post by you someday :-)
