Audio Bonanza!

To listen to this blog post read by the Annie, click here: /110509.mp3

In celebration of my decision to begin recording my blog posts* (I reserve the right to ONLY do this when I feel like it...) I'm giving a gift to a lucky blog reader!

We all know Harry Potter, many of us love Harry and his friends, but more than anything I adore Jim Dale's interpretation of JK Rowling's brilliant tale.

I have a NEW copy of the 10th anniversary recording of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone from the fine, fine folks at Random House Audio and I'd like to give it to a blog reader who can answer the following question:

In the picture to the right, what is Harry looking into?

Actually, anyone who posts a comment will be in the pot for the prize, I'm easy. I'll pull a name at random and the lucky winner will receive the boxed set.

I will pick the winner on MONDAY, NOV 9th, so be sure you comment before midnight on Sunday night!

Fine Print: Do NOT post your address, email, or any of that stuff. If you're the winner I'll post your name (or nickname) here on my blog and also on Twitter, and at that point the winner should contact me and we'll communicate privately so I can get the pertinent info to send this out.

Be warned, you will NOT get this lovely set unopened. Why? Because I'm listening to it right now (well, I couldn't NOT listen to it...) so you'll get it pre-listened to. But only once!

So post your comment - answer the question if you can - or just say something nice. If you say something mean you will NOT be in the pool for the prize.

I have more prizes coming in the next few weeks, lots of wonderful books have ended up on my doorstep and I'd like to share the wealth, so stay tuned!

*Audio Blog Posts
Starting with my Oct 29 post, I'm going to record my blog posts when I'm able because it seems like it will be fun. If it's not, I'll stop. If I'm bored, I'll stop. If I'm boring, don't listen...

I, myself, don't read as many blogs as I might because I get sidetracked and have a hard time reading text online. It's probably just me, but I like hearing things better. So I'll be recording my blog posts and putting a link at the top of the post. Maybe I'll roll them all into a podcast at some point, but that's just too overwhelming right now.

I have to go have a lie-down on the fainting couch.

OFFICE
This probably should have been item one on the blog today, but I have a habit of burying the lead...

I HAVE AN OFFICE!! And this time I'm going to make it stick!

We have a squatter's rights ethos in the house, and I'm not leaving this office except to eat and other stuff.

Originally we needed a 4-bedroom house because one room was going to be MY office. But when we moved in Gerry's health took a nose dive, and he needed a place to call his own for his own purposes (mostly researching Multiple Myeloma, communicating with folks, etc.) so he kind of took over the office.

As he began getting stronger I kicked him out of the office and moved Max in there (it was larger than his bedroom) and took over Max's old room as my shiny, bright, new office.

But I neglected to plant my butt in there and - by default - it slowly became Gerry's office again. THAT'S what I get for going out on those danged teaching trips.

Well, I've kicked him out AGAIN! I'm not going to let this slide, and the onus is on ME to be in the office, work in the office, and make it my space.

After one day I'm already feeling much more focused, more able to think things through, and less distracted by the mailman, the cat, the kitchen, dirt in the hallway or folks passing through the living room (which is where I did most of my work before)

I'll still knit in the living room, crochet in my own corner, bead in my bed... But the WORK I need to do (writing, making charts, research, emailing) will take place as much as possible in my office. Huzzah!

I am so happy that you have an office now. I know how hard it is for me, as just a regular person to get a handle on things with no space of my own. I can't imagaine how hard it must be to run a business and a home without one!
No audio book entry, please. I am a Harry Potter fan, but don't listen to the audio books. Save the entries for someone who wants it.

Harry is looking in the mirror of Erised. The one that shows your hearts desire. For Harry it was his parents, for Ron it was being the Quiddich champion, for Professor Dumbledore it was knitted socks and for Lord Voldemort it was the Philosopher (Sorcerer) Stone.

I love Harry Potter! I have all the books and movies.

For the contest: that's the mirror of erised (which I may or may not be spelling correctly). Not for the contest: yay office! I have given up my workspace to my husband several times (though we do both need the space) and reclaiming it is the best thing I've done recently.

hi Annie,

Harry Potter is looking into the Mirror of Erised, just one of the many story details I enjoy.
Last week, my knitting students, (children)said they want to learn to knit socks so they can send JK Rowling some Dobby socks ! They want to write her & ask if she's a knitter ? anyone else know ?

Cudos to the Office & to Gerry's health.
You have given me inspiration, as well. ~ I'm starting afresh with containing/reorganizing my KnittingWorld, which rambles all over my house. I knew things were getting out of hand when I took over my son's bureau, without a care, stuffing the empty drawers with yarn & handfuls of extra knitting needles collected from yard sales. Well, the drawers were empty !!!!, he knows no other Moms who do such things....
& thank you for the offer.
ta-ta,
Shell~

Thank you also so much for offering up your audiobook to the rest of us. That's very karmaliciously generous of you. I love both reading and listening, but listening is more conducive to crafting at the same time... ;)

Annie, here's a bookmark you can use on your mac to help you make reading easier. It's called "readability" and it's great for both enlarging the typeface on articles as well as converting colored print or backgrounds to white backgrounds, with traditional black print. Hope it helps.

Oh, the Mirror of Erised! I'm reading the series aloud right now to my 6 yr. old boy - he was Harry Potter for Halloween. I've knitted the hat, Dad made him a wand and now, I'm working on the owl. It's funny but his older sisters wanted to read the books to themselves. Youngest Child wants to hear them!

Keep that office door locked! Maybe you can knit yourself a chatelaine and put your office key on it.

I too am happy that Gerry is having better days and is "kick-out-able". My office/sewing/craft room is also being taken over/trashed, by my own self. I seem to be in acquisition mode and not use-it mode lately. I too hope that the horoscope is correct, and that Virgos will have a better year. I can't say I've been to h*ll and back, definately heck and back though!

Ooh, I also have a room of my own, but do my knitting, crocheting, weaving, spinning elsewhere. I've always felt badly that I couldn't cram it all into one room.

I've have never known what to call this room. "Office" sounds good - it's where I write mostly and keep a significant amount of my stash and art supplies. It's rather a mishmash mess.

I think if I start thinking of it as my "office," I'll be able to make it a more productive space!

Of course, as everyone's already said, it's the mirror of Erised. For some reason I'm thinking it was introduced much later than SS? BTW that name annoys me with its meaninglessness...I think American kids would not have been put off by retaining the "Philosopher's stone" name.

Anyway, happy listening!

Well, Harry is looking in the Mirror of Eriside (and probably seeing his parents). I have not read any of the Harry Potter books - I have LISTENED to Jim Dale reading all the Harry Potter Books! In fact, one day I was listening so hard while driving to work I blew right by the exit and realized it as I was passing the next exit. It's a good think I always arrive early because it's 14 miles to the exit after that (giggle).

Congrats on the office (again - I said that last time too). Make it stick this time, Annie! At least until you take off on another month of teaching, then make somebody sign a short-term lease for the space before you get in the car.
