Maths

I've taken on a project which I've dreamed about for a while - a bathing suit.

This will NOT be a bikini. Bikinis are fine, but I wanted to design a bathing suit that I might actually want to wear myself. Who knows, if it goes well maybe I'll do a tankini pattern, too! I've always loved Esther Williams - loved her athleticism, her skill and beauty - and her bathing suits!

Now the hard part. The schematic. Harder than knitting is figuring out the pattern. I'm going to use a double strand of Cascade Fixation, knit very tight to create the heavy, girdle-like fabric of those fabulous, bad, 40's & 50's suits, and I'll rely heavily on ribbing in the back for shaping help. I think I'm going to twist the fabric between the cups, but I need to fiddle with that. There will, of course, be elastic around the legs and around the upper back.

This isn't knitting, it's engineering.

Wire By Any Other Name
I just this minute recieved the latest draft of the wire book - current working title, Loop & Twist and, my question is, do any of you have a really inventive, gripping title for this book which might include the words "Wire", "Jewelry" or "Knitting?" Even if it doesn't include those words, I'd love to hear your suggestions! I think Loop & Twist is fine, but I also think it's awfully close to Teva's book title, Loop-d-loop

The book is looking VERY good - the font is funky (very 70's) but easy to read, the images are unexpected but clear - in rushing through it quickly I see places where images are labeled incorrectly, stuff like that - but it's the first time I've seen it laid out, and it's very exciting. This is going to be a beautiful book!

Wow, good luck with the bathing suit idea. I'm the sworn enemy of the knitted bikini, but I'm liking your plan so far.

When you design and size your patterns, do you have any standards which you use? I'm in the middle of sizing hell, and simply used my own measurements as a starting point. Any thoughts on that as a designer?

Cool Annie! Whether or not I would ever wear a knitted bathing suit, I still think designing one is great. Gotta push the envelope. Though, part of one of your drawings looked like a corset and that got my mind thinking of the possibilites. Am looking forward to the wire knitting book. When do you anticipate it will be out?

how about
Knits and Pearls and Purls?
or just
Pearls and Purls?

or
Pearls & Purls & Knits & Jems & Bits?
or
Knits & Pearls & Purls & Jewels

all get the idea of knitting in..

I actually like Pearls and Purls (or if you prefer, Purls and Pearls) best.

and it would make it (easy? hard?) for bookstores to know were to shelve it!

"WIRE you knitting with wool, when you could be knitting with WIRE?" Too long, huh? I thought so.

How's about:

"Twisted Annie: dozens of jewelry designs..." etc.

How about:

On the Wire

I like it because it's simple, catchy, and you put the beads on the wire so it's logical too.

I'd call it something like "Enchanted" and rely on a subtitle or after-a-colon phrase to define it. Something like "Enchanted: Wire knits with engaging twists" or something.

Meh. Too little sleep makes me a dull commenter!

well, loop and twist are synonyms, so they are a bit redundant.
How about TWISTED DESIGNS for JEWELRY?

I'm with Drew....

but I like Wired Knitting, tho at first glance people would think weird, but that may be a good thing... Knitting Wired. Live Wire Knits. (and it does live after being knit) Wired: Handknit Jewelery Designs.

Dunno.

"Bead on a Wire:"
and then a describing sub-title like:
'art jewelry for the handknitter',
'knitting with a twist', 'handknit jewelry designs' or something.

I agree with you. I don't like Loops and Twists. Just kinda yucky title. It just doesn't seem to go with the cover picture... which is really elegant.

Hmmm..... how about, Twisted Gems: A new approch to knitting with wire. or... Knitted Gems.

Is it just me, or does the hand model's thumbnail look dirty? Couldn't they Photoshop it?

I like Wire Works with any of the art jewelry knitting subtitles. But I think it doesn't matter as long as it is a title you can envision marketing.

how about "Getting Wired: Knitting Jewelry with Pizzazz" ?

and the bathing suit looks cool, but god, i think you're oging to get carpal tunnel double stranding fixation in a dense knit!

How about twist and loop? Just switching the order makes it seem less like Teva's book.

Love the idea of the bathing suit. I'm really curious what you come out with.

I am eager for a knitted suit that is not a bikini! I would definitely knit one. Can't wait for the new wire book, but I don't have any good ideas for titles. I see some good ones have already been posted though.

Maybe Wired Together: Dozens of Jewlery Designs, etc....

It would combine the knitting and crocheting in one title.

How wonderful! A knitted bathing suit in the style of Esther Williams? Count me in!

BTW, I read your letters from Leslie in SF and got a touch confused. My name is Leslie and I live in SF and I was contemplating knitting Backyard Leave scarf for a good couple of months but haven't had a chance to knit it yet. I'l have to meet up with the other Leslie when I get to that project and compare scarves.

Thanks,

- Leslie

PS: Your designs are truly lovely!
