Refining
The excellent news is that I have noticed an improvement in my breathing this week - the drugs are working! I was able to teach in Cornwall yesterday and it was a lovely class! There weren't as many participants as I think both the shop owner and myself would have liked, but at the same time the small number of students allowed me to spend a lot of time sitting, not jumping around like I normally do, and being careful with my breathing. I've noticed this week that as long as I move slowly, I'm dandy. When I forget and start speeding along, I'm wheezing and dizzy. Even eating and drinking have to go slower - slowing down is not such a bad thing.
This forces me to refine my schedule, to remove things that might not be 100% great for me to do now, and to take more time for myself. I tried to gracefully back out of the crochet calendar, but was asked to please stay because - and it's true - leaving at this point would really put them in a terrible situation. So I'm asking for help from some other crochet editor friends, I'll be passing along some of the editing work, and concentrating on the photo stuff and the acutal Quark layouts myself. I'm hoping this division of labor will make more sense and allow me to continue my teaching and designing with few wrinkles.
Today is my hon's birthday - the kids jumped into bed with us and we all sang Happy Birthday - then they did the "Are you ONE? Are you TWO? Are you THREE? thing all the way up to 47. He's in the living room right now dancing around to "Graceland" and I'm watching the McLaughlin Report (just like the 80s) and later today he'll be visiting a friend to watch the game on a big screen TV. Live is good.

Glad to hear the meds are working. You really must take care of yourself! The sun is finally shining here in Oregon which sadly amplifies the dust and dirty windows... WHATEVER. Have a good day. I'd rather knit than clean today.
Glad to hear you are feeling better!!
My husband will be 47 on the 13th! Time marches on!!! :)
What Stephanie said. LOL!
Toni (also in sunny Oregon)
Very glad to hear that the meds are taking hold... I hope that you can find a balance in this situation that allows you to continue to do what you love. A happy birthday to your sweetie!
Glad to hear you're doing better. Also, I love your sketches for your new patterns. They are so beautiful and feminine. BTW, I thought you were going to be on Knitty Gritty. Did I miss something? All I ever see are reruns. Is it me?
belated happy birthday to gerry!
glad you are feeling better!

Hi Annie, I'm newer to your blog and enjoy it very much even though when I read about combination knitting my eyes cross! Love your patterns where ever they appear.
Sorry to hear about your recent illness. Just a little of my own experience. Several years ago, I suddenly could not breathe after walking down a hallway--and was diagnosed as you were. And yes, I was NOT a smoker as you were not. I was on inhalers and steroids and they were causing they're own problems. The sudden-ness of it made me suspicious and I asked my doctor if it could be an allergen. She reluctantly agreed that it could. So I went looking. And I found next to favorite seat in the house that the lovely rustic magazine basket full of knitting magazines, had been eaten away at the bottom by critters in the basket reeds and it was the DUST I was breathing in! After clean-up, my breathing cleared up in about 2 weeks. I've been breathing easy ever since.
Take it for what it's worth to you. It may not be your story, but I felt I should share it since your story reminded me of my own.
Once again, thank you for your fun blog and your lovely handknits.
YAY MEDS!! I'm very glad you're feeling better. And I'm turning 42 tomorrow - lots of Aquarians out there! HB wishes to your hon.
Hi Annie--I'm not sure you want any medical advice, but here goes. I had/have asthma. But for years I had chronic bronchitis, breathing problems, was sick all the time, etc. The pulmonary docs tried everything, finally told me I had TB. I didn't. A different M.D. who had a holistic approach found I had a food allergy (in my case, wheat). As soon as I gave up wheat (not easy or welcome, I can tell you) my lungs cleared up. Please explore the allergy avenue. I would never have believed something so common (staff of life, etc.) would be causing lung issues for me. Good luck. Please forgive me for sending you unsolicited and possibly unwanted advice. Wendy
Thank you so much for responding to my political questions the other day and now I'm back with a knitting question.
I finished the twisted float cocoon jacket from VK last night and almost have all of the tails woven in. I wonder if you have any advice about blockign the thing. It's kind of a crazy. do I block the circle and just let the sleeves lay over the body of the jacket or is there another way that you did it. I considered not blocking it but the center 6 inches are a little puckery and I want to calm them down.
Thanks for any help.

I would steam block the entire piece, on your ironing board, concentrating especially on the center of the circle. You can use a steam iron, but make sure you don't touch the fabric with the iron! If you have a steamer (I like the Scuncii steamer, but there are LOTS of good ones out there!) you could use that instead.
Block the sleeves the same way you'd press a jacket or blouse, but being careful not to touch the fabric with the iron.
I hope this helps!
