Guess What I've Been Doing...?

Knitting! (big surprise) in my lovely air conditioned studio. I wish.

Knitting wool in the heat, always SUCH a pleasurable experience... But I finished a figure hugging deep neckline Malabrigo sweater (I guarantee that folks will be stroking this sweater - on and off - until it felts with the love, it's THAT soft and touchable!) a baby onesie for a VK book and a hat for Pam's Lace Style Book which had been half finished for a while. Here's some of the baby detail.

I'm starting a new dress this afternoon at 4:00. Time me. Here's the sketch. I'm using Berroco Suede Deluxe (I wasn't the hugest fan of Suede, but I really like the Suede Deluxe).

Right now Gerry's out at the Zoo with the kids - I roped him into that with a friend, and I'm hoping that the slightly overcast skies will mean less burn. Here's Maxie from earlier this week after a sunny playdate with a friend (and, yes, sunscreen - but obviously not often enough...) Teabags & Cocoa Butter Stick - the redhead's summertime best friends!

I'm in the process of turning one of our guest rooms into a guest/knitting sanctuary for me - it has air conditioning in the window (the big draw) This is no small project as I have to get rid of a lot of my pack rat stuff and take a sewing machine (which I don't use) out and put a chair in with a nice footstool.

On the redhead/sun connection - I wasn't a full redhead but had enough and pale enough skin and freckle that I know that pose only too well. I have now developed an allergy to the sun (thanks to Celtic ancestors apparently) and even with the strongest sunscreen available I suffer. Cider vinegar helps the sting if you don't mind smelling like a salad....

Poor Maxie!! You can have a cool bath in tea too. Here in Tasmania we are under a hole in the ozone layer, even though we are a cool temperate climate, si it's No Hat No Play and sunscreen in the classrooms at school and I wear a hat in the Summer to walk the Labradors too. We have had to become very Sun Safe aware. We have cool UV bracelets that colour up when the UV gets high!!!

I'm with you on the Malabrigo. I'm making a sweater for the husband with it, he'll get lots of hugs while wearing it! As the mother of 3 fairskinned redheads, you have my sympathies.

I have a redhead and we use cool hankies as it sucks the heat from the burn spot...today it is daughter's nose and cheeks.

I worked for a summer on the Greek Island of Rhodes and watched pale as oatmeal Brits turn beet red in one day ... and then go back out again the next day!!! They'd come limping into the taverna and the best thing we could do for them was yogurt. Something about the PH, like vinegar. Imagine the busy weeks when all we had left was strawberry yogurt! Fabulous designs, by the way, can't wait to see the Romantic Knits!
