"You look beautiful, baby - can you give me a little less neck crease?"
Yes, I heard those words spoken today in total seriousness. I told the model sotto voce that lack of neck crease is KEY to being a good hand knit model. She laughed - yay! The models were gorgeous, the hair and makeup stunning, the styling was edgy and creative and the photography seems amazing (hard to tell until the finals come back, but the polaroids look WONDERFUL!
I waffle between feeling like a useless moron (I was introduced repeatedly to the crew as, "The Knitter"), vital to the endeavor (I made some nice decisions about garment fit) and a stick in the spokes (I didn't like a white [WHITE] cloche hat and my dislike of it seemed to be the cause of some slightly hard feelings. They'll mend. It's life. I hated being Ms. Bad Guy, but really, the model looked like a Vegas Bobby - all the hat needed was a badge - and you know when I don't like a hat it's a hard-to-love hat...)But overall it was good I was there. Sort of. Yes. Of course.
I'm going back tomorrow. Wish me luck. I'm tired. I have to knit.
At one point a group of older women walked by, were intruiged by the shoot and watched a while. I felt like I had groupies.

It's great that you were there, Annie - you know what we (the readers) want from a photograph of a knitted item. It has to be a lush and sexy picture, yes, but it also needs to grab us by the eyeballs and make us say, "I NEED to knit that! *Now,* if not sooner."

I think an introduction with "meet the designer" is more appropriate, "the knitter" doesn't give it the right title.

And a lot of the time if "the knitter" isn't on the set, we get beautifully styled and executed photos that are pretty images but don't show THE GARMENT. My main pet peeve. How will anyone knit it if we can't see what it looks like? Stick up for the knitters everywhere Annie! :)
when i see models with regular folks, i'm always struck by how extraordinary they look. not necessarily prettier or more beautiful. just other wordly. almost alien. like a different species.
Very exciting! It sucks you're not getting your props as the designer and genius behind the whole endeavor, though. "The knitter," indeed. We all know being "the knitter" is a very worthy occupation- but you're so much more than that. I can't wait to see the finished book! It looks like it will be sumptuous!
All in all it sounds like it went rather well. I'm looking forward to the book.

It's not so much the pants I dislike...it's the pattern on them. That lovely sweater needs to be in the spotlight by itself. The pants introduce interference. I am glad you prevailed. I am really looking forward to seeing the finished book.
