The Knitting Clinic
At one point she asked what I did for a living and I started explaining. Usually when I tell a doctor or some other professional what I do either their eyes glaze over (mostly men) or they get a look on their face like they're talking to the village idiot and say, "That's so NICE that you can make a little money knitting..." Yeah.
But yesterday the reaction was pretty cool. She was actually interested. I showed her one of the flip books and she went and got several other folks at the clinic who are knitters (if you were left sitting half naked in waiting room #3, I apologize) and they all ooo-ed and ahhh-ed over the books and my latest project. That's a totally new reaction for me, and it was, I must admit, quite nice.
Some of them promised to come to the Yarnery on 3/16 when they're having a "welcome to the neighborhood" event for me - cool! It's so great of them - and I still haven't gotten my sad knitting butt to ANY of the yarn shops in town in the past 2 weeks - let alone the one that is now a short walk from my house! (I'm sorry Linda - I promise I'll get out to Yarnzilla soon and show you the progress on the Malabrigo jacket!)
If anyone wants to come by the Yarnery on Friday, 3/16 in the evening (I think around 6:30 - I'm not sure...) please do! It will be great to see you / meet you in person!
And now I'm off to figure out the inns and outs of my new bank account. I hope I don't humiliate myself by breaking out into the Wells Fargo Wagon song while I'm on line!

I came across your blog a week or so ago while googling your Backyard Leaves Pattern. I think the pattern is brilliant and can't wait to cast on - I must finish 1 (of 10) WIP first (new rule).
I've been lurking and enjoying your moving/settling-in adventures - hope that's not creepy for you. I have to finally post to comment on your wonderful reception in your new community - what a great bunch of people!
I have to admit to being slightly envious. My LYS is 60 mile away (that's one way) and I've been trying to recruit students just so I'll know another knitter.
Best wishes in your new home.
Sincerely,
Linda
You make me miss St. Paul (I'd never have believe it possible). The Yarnery ROCKS. You're lucky to be so close...
bursitis. OUCH! I love that the clinic workers flocked to hear about knitting for a living. If I were in exam room 3, I'd have come running with my gown flapping!
Ah, New Yorker, you live in the mid-west now. You were "in" line, not "on" line. Nobody west of the Hudson says "on" line. I'm allowed to correct you because I once lived in Brooklyn Heights. We moved when I was 3 months old but, hey, it counts. Glad you are settling in and that people are nice.
odd question for you. i can't make it up there next friday (it's my 6 month annivesary, lol), but i will be going to the yarn harlot's event at the yarnery on april 4th. do you go to other writers' events? it would be so cool to meet you in person!
Isn't it wonderful when you see true interest in your passion? I have so few friends who knit and a couple of months ago my husband and I started making sock blockers to sell....well, try and explain the need for those to your non-knitting friends.
I hear you! I'm so used to the glazed look that I hesitate to tell people what I to do. Then, every so often, I get a "No way! Your writing/designs are in magazines?" and it makes my week. So good to hear your new doctor's office is one of those positive places...positive vibes make healing faster, imo!
Whenever I visited St Paul, I always made a beeline to The Yarnery. If Evangeline is still working there, tell her Michele (Betty Pat's daughter in law) says HI and so does Dane. Thanks!
Alas - I'll be missing the chance to meet you live & in person yet again. Hopefully your schedule and my calendar of family commitments will align soon.
How lucky to be in a place with 2 great stores like that.
The flip books are a really brilliant idea.
I know you're up to your eyeballs in work and all, but when you have a chance, would you mind if I emailed you for some professional advice? I'd appreciate hearing what someone with more experience has to say.
