Back To Some Knittin'
It's my weakness, diet coke. I don't keep it in the house because I'd OD, but when I'm out of the house I'll have it. My own version of 'house kosher'
And they stayed for a visit. Love the visits.
And Gerry was feeling really good - he had lunch with us, Maxie had a great playdate with my friend's wonderful son, and I got to sit and chat with friends while we all knitted.
It truly was just what the doctor ordered. I'd become rather tired - feeling the pinch of the drive over the past couple of days - but this was absolutely lovely!
And What Did I Knit?
Then I received some beautiful yarn - to replace the yarn lost from the luggage - and have returned to the colorwork piece for VK (left, with photoshop liberties.)
And, wonder of wonders, the photo shoot's been pushed back so I have an extra 2 weeks. Life is good.
Today Max had another playdate and I got to see the AMAZING playground he's been talking about for days (aka, "Treasure Island" over by Hamline. Huzzah.)
Then back home just in time to pick up Han and scoot her over to her first birthday party here in MN (she got her friend a mug with a kitty-esque quote on it - it was a hit!)
I did a little shopping (for Father's Day - and for myself - I'm dangerously low on comfortable shorts and shirts without spots on them...) then back to pick up Hannah and home to see G sitting on the back deck, enjoying the wifi and checking email. And his feet had swollen so badly he may as well be pregnant. A call to the doc - becoming routine.
After 36 hours on pain meds, he's his old self. Yay! I was so grateful and happy to be just sitting with my guy on the back porch, that I spilled the beans a day early about our big Father's Day Gift
The Big Father's Day Gift
When the possible date for the stem cell transplant was moved up to August instead of late September, I realized that my pipe dream of taking Gerry with me to Provence was NOT going to work. I also very much wanted to have a family vacation while he's able to enjoy it, and the kids are able to spends some great, quality time with him.
Since I'm teaching up in Duluth next weekend - and had thought I'd bring the family along - I checked out rental properties in the area for the week and found a lovely home right on Lake Superior which was available for the 5 days after my gig is over. YAY!
To be honest, it's a bit pricier than we usually rent for our summer vacation - 5 days is as much as a full week at our last year rental - but the timing couldn't be more perfect.Fishing, rocking on the porch, fishing, looking for frogs, fishing - it will be an amazing week. I wonder what kind of fishing license I need to get... And we need to get some poles. I love to fish!
So I spilled the beans - and Gerry's very happy - and the kids are happy, and I'M happy. Atticus is happy because the owners have agreed that he can come.
Life is damned good. And even more gifts tomorrow!

Happy Father's Day to Gerry and the whole family. Enjoy your holiday, that's a great gift that you thought up!
I am so glad that you and your family will be able to have this vacation together in such a beautiful place. I've wanted to write but it's hard not to just repeat what's been said...and good words are sometimes hard to find. You and family have, are and will be in my thoughts. Please know that there are a lot of us out there who do check in daily, people who are concerned and people who are holding all of you in their hearts.
Hi, Annie! Sorry to not comment more often, but I'm reading and thinking of you and your family often. My husband and I bought fly fishing gear something like 7 years ago,and we've used it maybe twice. We have the waders, the poles and a bunch of other thingies. I don't think he would notice if I loaned it all to you for a few weeks later this summer. I'm over there regularly when I teach at the Yarnery, so if you're interested, e-mail me at shellyk at shellykang dot com and I'll get it to you. You're going to love the North Shore!
Hey Shelly!
I am absolutely terrified of borrowing something that will be used by husband and kids. I feel certain it would end up at the bottom of Lake Superior - so I'd rather just fret about the kids falling in than about someone's rod and reel!
Thank you, though - that's so great of you! We still have to get together for coffee!
Sounds like a great place to have a little break! And friends dropping round just to hang out for a while is good too :-)
I went fishing with my dad and my first husband, 30+ years ago. One of my friends recently moved to my home state and lives about two miles from Dad's favorite fishing spot. Guess where I'm hoping to go next summer?
Sounds like a great vacation you have planned. May all the surprises be *good* ones, and I hope your workshop goes well next weekend.
Happy Father's Day to G. I will hold you and your dear family in my prayers every day. Enjoy Duluth and Lake Superior. We still have ties to the Twin Cities, and I love doing a yarn crawl there. Enjoy your vacation.
I am so happy for you! I don't think I have to say, 'Enjoy your vacation'. I think you will do just that without any prompting!
Happy Father's Day Gerry! Annie - I'm so happy to read that you all had such a lovely day and of your upcoming vacation! That's wonderful!
Have a great day today! :o)

I'm so glad some nice things are popping up for you and your family, and I think you're amazing for being able to appreciate them and the good things that are around you.
I don't comment a lot but I think about you and your family often.
I hope you have a wonderful time on the lake!
That's great! :) Have a wonderful vacation together!

I took the liberty of looking for the info on fishing licenses. Just like I thought, you can buy them online here http://www.dnr.state.mn.us/licenses/fishing/index.html?type=fishing
Happy Father's Day Gerry!
Debra
If you're worried about borrowing fishing gear how about helping me out and taking some gear off my hands. My Dad collected much gear in his fishing days and with those days gone, I have a HUGE amount of gear to get rid of. My cousin took a bunch but I'm looking for a place to donate/give the rest. I'm off work this week so if you're interested we can meet somewhere or you can come over here. This gear has great father/daughter mojo and needs to be passed on for the mojo to continue.
Annie, I'm so happy to see you take some time to rewind and for your family to do so together. Knitting with friends, fishing with family - both great for stress relief in my book.
Best wishes for you during both the good and the hard.
It sounds like just what you all need - and to be able to also bring Atticus is terrific! I know finances are an issue but I say be damned the expense - live, just live!
