The fly in the ointment of all this health goodness was that beginning around 2007 my Estratest was no longer available/covered by insurance. I was switched to Estodial, but it just wasn’t afforadable ($180/month, WITH insurance!) I fell into the habit of taking one pill every three days to keep my non-estrogen symptoms at bay. Finally, I just gave up and stopped getting the prescription.

Darkness, meet Dawn
The fact that I DID have this urge is frightening; obviously there was something inside of me that felt entirely overwhelmed and full of despair. But it was the Lyrica that crystallized those feelings, that made them solid and compelled me to act on them.
The Holiday Cycle
My mom used to say, “When you feel blue, take a walk or take a nap.” and I think right now I need the equivalent of a nice long walk every day. Maybe a nice, long walk down to the Jimmy Lee Recreation Center?
Vacation! (?)
Our first day here we visited the Koresh Unity Historic Site. I’d actually visited this place back in 1991, when I took a solo 1-week vacation from grad school. Who but me would go, alone, to Florida for Spring Break to visit Celibate Utopian Historic Sites?
AARP
So I’m blaming AARP for my first ‘spell’, as my mother would say. Apparently the tradeoff for those great discounts are lightheadedness and dizziness. That’s my story, and I’m sticking to it.
Judgement Induced Paralysis
Mentally, I’m much clearer, but the pain has really cranked up a notch (or two) which is probably a mixture of the cold, the fact I’m not cycling as much as I was (although I AM cycling at the local rec center!) and my body hating me for taking away that wonderful pain drug.
Resting & ReCharging
It’s been six weeks today since the arrival of Shingles in my life. I’ve been in such a fog that some days it feels as though I’ve had Shingles forever.
I’m taking the past two exceptional weekends of teaching as a sign that things are looking up, and no one can convince me otherwise!
Mini Vacations
I snagged a First Class upgrade and enjoyed every second of it, from the way the baggage guy sat up a little straighter when he saw my boarding pass, to the PRIORITY fast lane I got to go through at the TSA to the first-on-the-plane boarding and free drinks.
I’m Lucky
Tomorrow I turn 53. My skin hurts from the shingles, our car is god-knows-where, and I’m so incredibly lucky that I need to pinch myself. I never thought that I’d have such a rich and full life, I truly am the luckiest person I know!*
According To [Business] Plan!
I’m still learning, and as with any yarn there are differences from dye lot to dye lot, but my goal is to create colors that I can recreate with a certain level of consistency.
Finally my 20K graduate degree in “folding” (and dyeing) is paying off!
